Champion quality Australian Cattle Dogs - Size Matters
For many years, as ACD's were developed, there wasn't a written standard for the breed. When the first ACD standard was recorded, it called for the dogs to stand about 20 inches tall at the withers. Dogs that didn't measure up, or weren't able to withstand the grueling test of the Australian Outback, consisting of staggering heat, rigorous terrain, poisonous snakes, paralytic ticks, nerve damaging spiders and yes, the highly feared crocodiles, were culled by either man or nature.

The appearance of the Australian Cattle Dog calls for a symmetrically built working dog with a combination of substance, power, balance, hard muscular condition, great agility, strength and endurance. Any tendency to grossness or weediness is a serious fault. Remember, there aren't any little cattle so yes... size DOES matter.

Buzzards Ranch has had a tradition of champion quality ACD's since 1964. It is home of world famous CH Buzzards Red Tubs HX, as well as CH Rokglen Blue Phantom. These two amazing dogs have become a major part in the foundation of our champion blood lines. All our breeding stock is worked first, quality graded, then temperament evaluated before they become part of the program as improvers or before being shown in conformation.

In 1988, I hosted the ACDCA National Specialty in Tulsa, OK, and, in the fall of 1989, the very first AKC Herding A Match for the ACDCA. In December, 1990, the club became officially licensed to hold AKC herding trials. Next, we hosted the first, ever, AKC Herding Trials, January 5-6th, 1990, again, for the ACDCA. In 1990, I became a herding judge.

Those who MAKE things happen,
those who WATCH things happen,
and those who WONDER what happened."
